Hidesign's History with the LGBTQ Capital in the World

When you've been in business for 45 years, you've seen it all – the ups and downs, the different people you meet along the way, and most importantly, the stories you become a part of. And one of those memorable stories for us was when we set up shop at Castro Street, the first gay capital of the world. As the conversation around Pride Month grows and social media bombards us with new rainbow-colored products, we want to remind you that we have always believed that the world has space for everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Our friendship with the LGBTQ community goes back to 1984, a time when Castro Street was making headlines for its political activism and its role in the fight for human rights. We were overwhelmed by the warm embrace we received from the LGBTQ family. During one of our visits, we discovered that six stores on Castro Street were proudly displaying Hidesign bags. It was an incredible joy to receive such love and support from a community we have always stood by.

The cultural revolution of the 1960s was a vibrant mix of politics, music, and style. As the rebels of that era grew older, they channeled their energies into business, creating enterprises that continued to uphold the values of social and political freedom and equality. Visionaries like Steve Jobs of Apple, Richard Branson of the Virgin Group, and Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream were all great social and business rebels.
We have always strived for a similar blend of business and social values. "I was thrilled to find six  stores carrying Hidesign bags. This was when Castro Street was at the height of its political and artistic activism, leading the fight for human rights and equality, championed by the LGBT community. It was the heart of an exciting and incredibly creative community, and Hidesign was their preferred bag." says Dilip Kapur, our founder.

At Hidesign, we believe in creating more than just fashionable accessories. We strive to build a brand that aligns with our core values of inclusivity and acceptance. Our journey alongside the LGBTQ community has been one of mutual support and understanding. We are proud to stand with them, not just during Pride Month, but every day.

Happy Pride Month!
